Forbidden items? Things you cannot include in an international move

Due to each country’s customs regulations and restrictions, certain types of products cannot be shipped by ocean freight as part of an international moving process. Some of these items are forbidden, and others have restrictions.

  1. It is forbidden to transport:
    • Animals and plants
    • Food and beverages
    • Construction items
    • Auto parts
    • Firearms, ammunition
    • Drugs and pharmaceuticals
    • Pornographic material
    • Explosives and flammables
    • Elements considered a heritage of any country (pre-Columbian art, for example)
    • And much more…

In other words, you cannot send anything considered hazardous, corrosive, explosive, flammable, radioactive, or perishable. In the case of air transport, rechargeable batteries are also forbidden.

  2. Restricted elements:
    • Alcoholic beverages
    • Items of significant value
    • Collections
    • Work equipment
    • And others

In the specific case of Argentina, you are allowed to include up to 30 liters of alcohol (equivalent to 40 bottles of wine, for example) in maritime shipments for import or export. However, it is strictly necessary to check with the country of destination or origin of the move if this is also allowed.
In most European countries, alcohol is not prohibited, but its import or export is subject to taxation.
